A Big bIG CONGRATULATIONS!!!

hey! who said that grade 10's can't make a movie? Well, we sure proved him wrong! (it must have been a guy, only a guy would say something like that :) ) Never say never.

So what i'm actually trying to say is : WELL DONE 10R'S!!! You have taken up a challenage which at first seemed very exciting but soon turned out to be quite daunting. But instead of giving up hope, we continued to do our best in making a movie - and learnt a whole lot along the way. It was fun, thought-provoking and an amazing way to work as a group.

I think it was the ultimate thing that we will always remember, and be remembered for : the 10R's who made those funny, creative films!
Each and everyone was original and unique. And we all deserve a standing ovation!

PLEASE PLEASE POST YOUR FILM ON THE BLOG SO THAT I CAN SHOW MY FAMILY HOW ENTERTAINING ALL YOUR FILMS ARE!!

EDITING PROBLEMS!

Hi Everyone.

Our editing is not going so great and I would appreciate any advice anyone has to offer, concering a solution.

I recently installed Windows Movie Maker 2.6 onto my laptop. I saved all the movie clips onto my laptop as well, so I could view them before editing -- they all played fine. BUT, as soon as I imported them onto the movie maker, only the sound played and no picture showed??!
This was very disturbing. I tried looking under properties etc. to try and see if the format (or something) was set wrong, but I couldn't find anything.

Apparently the technology we have on our video cameras are too advanced for Windows Movie Maker. This is very strange, because I have the latest version installed.

Anyway, I was wondering how many of you used Windows Movie Maker to edit your films, and if anyone else experienced problems. Also, if anyone knows of any other editing programmes that we could use, I would appreciate that a lot. If anyone is in contact with the Boys' High School, it would be nice to know what programme they used in editing their films (the one Nina starred in), because they are said to have a more advanced programme than we do.

We are really looking forward to editing our film, but I guess that will have to wait until we can come up with a solution to our problem.

P.S I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone's films tomorrow, and hopefully you will see ours soon.

The moment we're all waiting for...

I am just SO excited to see these movie posters tomorrow! Can't wait to start trying to figure out what they might be about and then on Wednesday find out what the real story is. :)

I am also super stoked for you guys to see our poster which i think is really cool, but I'll leave the judgement up to you. :D

We are also almost finished editing and are looking forward to viewing the final result.
In the photo you can see a shot from our movie with our three main actors, Peter Jessop, Tayla van Blerck and myself. We are so thankful to Peter for starring in our movie. :)

Hope you guys are as psyched as I am for tomorrow!! :D

Hi Almal :)

YAY - I can finally post on our blog instead of just making comments at the bottom there :) This one's going to be a short post though - just a quick update on what's happened this week:

Last Wednesday (6th October) Sam, Tarryn and I got together at Sam's house after school to work on the movie poster for our film. Things went great as not only did we create a suitable poster - we also (finally) found a title for our movie!

Can't wait to show off our poster on Monday.
Hope everyone's had a good weekend

The joys of filming

Good afternoon everyone :)

We started filming today (yes, for the first time) and we had an absolute blast!! it's quite a revelation how long it can take to produce even a minute of usable film... amongst our obstacles were toes/elbows in the frame and the constant racket of cars from the m3 but after several takes we had our first scene - yay! We will resume filming tomorrow and hope that it does not rain!! for everyone still filming and editing: good luck and enjoy :)

So.. how far are we??

Well guys.. we have three days before our posters are due and I am very happy to announce that we have completed ours already and are almost finished editing our movie :)
Our group now only consists of Tayla and I.. so I guess we're a pair actually :)
Last Monday (during the holidays) we worked on our storyboard and then got to filming :)
After hours of bloopers and mistakes we finally had enough footage to call it a day. We took photos for our poster and then organised a time that suited us all to get together and start on the tiring editing process.
This past Monday Tayla and I went to our friend, Chris Kunz's house and he tought us a few things about editing and we managed to get through the first half of our movie.
We laughed and laughed at all of our bloopers and made decisions regarding how our film will ultimately look.
We finished our poster as well and arraged to finish editing this weekend.

We have learnt so much in this process and are SO excited to see the end result and to watch everyone elses movies :)
I'm sure they will be BRILLIANT!!
English exam tomorrow.. better get revising :)

Reviews

Our group has recently completed our film and are so excited, we are showing it to our family and friends! (not 10r though, you guys have to wait just a bit longer...)

Listening to people's opinion of our movie was both entertaining and a learning experience. The constructive critisism was helpful in a way that we now know where we need to edit the movie. It also helps to know that people actually enjoyed the film a found it just as funny as we did.

Overall, besides a few faults, we really love our film and find it a big success!

but due to a prior meeting that a team member had she could not make it and this is why Hannah Cook and I are in a group of two :)
We have a written order of events for our movie and we will be starting the filming process today..we worked well together and are very excited about this film.
We dont want to give anything away but I think it will be a really exciting view for everybody :)

Progress Report

Today we got together to start the filming! We all had so much fun! We have gone through all the scences we shot today and it was amazing how much of it was useless!!! But we have most of what we need now, there are just one or two things we need to re-shoot tomorrow and then its just the editing to do!
To the right is a picture of the team in our outfits from filming :) Well, there is a bit of mixing and matching (we dont want to give too much away!)
We also know exactly how we are going to do the poster, we just need to do it now. Yay! What an awesome day :) :) :)
-Sam, Kim and Tarryn :)

progress

Greetings:)
I'm sitting with Rayne and Celeste in my bedroom.
We are about to start writing our storyboard, because we are going to Kirstenbosch tomorrow to film our one scene.
We have also been searching for music to add to our movie.

We have a little problem.
Our MAIN actress (Julia) is currently unreachable. She doesn't have a cell phone and we searched for her number in the phone directory, but were unsuccessful. We asked everyone we could think of, but nobody has her number. This is really stressful, because we need to shoot the movie tomorrow. We will probably just have to go to her house tomorrow and hope she's available...

We are going to try our best to do all the work we can do without her for now.

Update on Film Project

Hello

On Thursday and Monday my group (Cassi, Brittany, Nabeela and I) met to discuss our film project. After dismissing the idea of doing a music video for our movie project, we started brain-storming another idea that Nabeela thought of.

We thought about her idea for a while and created a plot while combining all our concepts. We had a few laughs and decided that it was a perfect plot for our film project. On Monday we worked together to create basic (very basic) story boards.

All our dates are set, our actors and actresses employed (haha -they won't be getting paid) and we even know where our set of the film is.

I am so excited that we have a plot and hopefully the audience finds it as funnny as we do. Now, all that is left to do is to write a script and begin rolling the cameras!!

I really hope the other groups have created a basic plot from which the will work from.

Progress Report :)

Hey Guys!

So I think the comments are getting to long on that progress one ... so I rate that we update in new posts (it's also much more fun :D)

So ... Progress Report:
Our group (Kim, Sam, Alex and myself) spent Saturday together talking about our film. We have our idea set in stone and we have decided on outfits, parts, lines, etc. We had such an amazing time! And, to add to it all, it was the most beautiful day! We could sit OUTSIDE and soak up the sun while working! Summer is almost here ladies! :)

But ... I just wanted to remind you guys to keep at it. I know I don't only speak for myself when I say that we were totally inspired and we didn't want to leave when we had to!

Keep on keeping on! Love you all :)

Collaboration is beneficial to all.

One of the best ways of learning is by sharing any useful information or ideas that you have found helped you. Any useful tips which you have to offer each other will enable all of us to benefit. Remember that you are not restricted to commenting: you can create your own postings in which you upload helpful information that would enable all to make the very best films you as amateur film directors can.

Writing a storyboard

When Nicola Suttle (2010 head of our Film Society) started the teaching of film, she would very often show us a video clip to get us started and then we would have an opportunity to apply what had been taught.

One of the first things that we did in our film society meetings was create a storyboard. This is a four-minute explanation of how to create a storyboard from Videojug. They also provide a template for a storyboard which you might find helpful in organising your film.

How To Write A Storyboard For A Film
Sorry I posted this by mistake! Still getting used to blogging!

For those of you who are feeling desperate and don't know where to start, this might help a little bit.

10R Film Project

Hi girls

This is a space in which I am inviting you to report on the progress of your films which you are going to hand in next term. All that I want from you is a brief weekly report on your progress. So there must be a date; a sentence or paragraph on what you have been doing; a comment on your projected plans

For Example
DATE: 1 September 2010
REPORT: Last week we decided that we are going to make our own films. At the time it seemed like a fabulous idea. It's now a week later and I have done nothing about it. I feel quite daunted by the whole idea.
PROJECTED PLANS: TODAY for homework I will come up with a couple of simple ideas for our film and present them to the group
